Color That Protects — Not Just Covers
Why Indianapolis Homeowners Choose Seal Now for Deck & Fence Staining
Your wood surfaces are constantly exposed to sun, rain, and seasonal extremes. Without proper protection, they fade, crack, and deteriorate quickly. Professional staining adds a protective barrier that keeps your deck or fence looking great and lasting longer.
We serve homeowners across Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Zionsville, and all of Central Indiana.

Deck Staining That Won’t Peel, Flake, or Fade
Pressure-treated pine, cedar, redwood, and ipe. We stain deck boards, railings, stairs, and built-in benches — protecting against Indiana’s freeze-thaw cycles and UV exposure.

Keep Your Fence Looking New for Decades
Privacy fences, picket fences, split rail, and custom fencing. Staining slows rot, resists mold, and keeps wood structurally sound years longer than leaving it bare.

UV Protection Where It Matters Most
These take the most direct sun of any wood surface on your property. Our UV-blocking stain keeps them looking rich instead of gray and weathered.

Built for Foot Traffic, Not Just Looks
Front porches, back porches, and deck stairs. High-traffic surfaces need stain that handles foot traffic — our penetrating formula doesn’t sit on top where feet scuff it off.

One Consistent Finish Across Your Whole Yard
Gazebos, pool houses, outdoor kitchens. We match stain color across all surfaces for a cohesive look throughout your outdoor living space.

Deck & Fence Staining FAQs
How much does deck staining cost in Indianapolis?
Deck staining cost depends on the size of your deck, the condition of existing coatings, and how much prep work is needed. Most residential deck staining projects in Indianapolis range from $1,500 to $2,500. Fences are typically $12 to $20 per linear foot. Includes stain on both sides of the fence, including product and labor. We provide free, no-obligation estimates — call (317) 548-2002 or request a quote online.
How long does deck stain last?
Traditional deck stains last 2-4 years or longer depending on sun exposure and conditions before they start to fade and need to be redone. Fences last longer since they are vertical rather than flat surfaces like decks. Expect 4-6 years or longer on fence stains before reapplication is suggested.
Do I need to strip my old stain before re-staining?
If your deck or fence has an existing film-forming solid type stain (the kind that peels and flakes) in most cases, this type of solid stain does not remove without extensive sanding. We typically wash and re-stain with a solid type stain. If the stain is transparent or semi transparent it needs to be fully stripped before we can apply stain. Our process includes site testing including stripping a small area to test for stain removal. If this is a first application on bare wood, no stripping is needed.
Can you stain a deck that’s already been sealed?
Yes. We recommend having the deck or fence treated and sealed before staining with our penetrating sealer for the ultimate protection. Newer or greying bare wood, we can stain directly after proper cleaning and prep. If a film-forming top sealer was used, it needs to be stripped first. We evaluate every surface during our free assessment.
What’s the difference between staining and sealing a deck?
Sealing protects wood from moisture, UV, and wood rot. With our clear, penetrating, long-lasting wood sealer. Staining also helps to protect the wood but primarily adds color and overall beauty for years without the sun fading or greying the wood. At Seal Now we offer multiple options to protect and enhance your deck or fence, whether just staining or just sealing or both for the ultimate protection and beauty.
How long before I can walk on my newly stained deck?
Our stain is typically dry to the touch within 2–4 hours and ready for light foot traffic within 24 hours. We recommend waiting 48–72 hours before placing heavy furniture or planters back on the surface. Weather conditions can affect cure time — we’ll give you specific guidance at the end of every project.
Do you stain fences in addition to decks?
Yes. We stain all types of wood fences, including privacy fences, picket fences, shadow box, and custom fencing.
What time of year is best for deck staining in Indiana?
The ideal staining season in Central Indiana runs from late April through October, when temperatures are consistently above 50°F and humidity is manageable. We can stain 9 – 10 months per year, but spring and fall typically offer the best conditions. Book early season for spring availability and summer for fall service.

PPG Proluxe Wood Stain Colors
At Seal Now we recommend and use PPG Proluxe quality stains. Oil-based transparent stains show all the natural beauty and characteristics of the wood grain and are easily removed for reapplication when needed.
We typically use oil-based transparent stains for decks and fences without a previous stain that does not remove from washing and stripping. For surfaces with existing coatings or where more color coverage is needed, we use Proluxe Rubbol solid stains.
